Ark Anglers

Arkansas River

Date: 3/25/2009
Fish Caught: 3 Total
Location: Arkansas River
Weather Condition: 40s, windy, and cold

TJ Blackhurst and I have been wanting to get together and go fish the Ark for quite some time. It is spring break and TJ is a school teacher so he has the week off so we headed out. We left around 10:45 and after stopping for a few supplies and information we made it to the river.

The first stop we made we did not even see anything move so we moved up the river further. This is where I caught a few browns. The river split and the smaller branch moved to a slow flow with the help of a small dam made from tumbleweeds drifting down the river. There were a bunch of fish coming up and we spotted some emergers on the water they were feeding from. I tied on a #22 emerger pattern and after a few casts hooked my first ark brown. It was about 8-9 inches. Shortly after hooked a larger fish. This one was closer to 12-13 inches.

After moving upstream and seeing more fish close to the banks TJ landed a nice fish that was also in the 12-13 inch range. The wind was cold and we had fished all afternoon.

It was a great trip and we saw various animals on the drive home. Bighorn sheep, a lot of elk, and plenty of deer. Can not wait for the caddis hatch in another month or so.
