It was time to make the trip to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This time we took the whole family. We drove up to the trail head for Music Pass on Friday night and camped overnight there. We woke up and all the kids had oatmeal and we headed out.
We hiked over the pass and down into the meadow at the bottom of the valley. The kids stayed there with Jenny and I headed for the lake. I got to where the trail crosses the stream an located a large fish on the bank. I backed up and set up my fly rod. I threw a small dry fly on and cast it into the eddy where the fish was holding. It was not long before he grabbed the fly. I landed the fish but the camera was in the pack and did not want to kill the fish getting it out. It came in at just over 16 inches. At that point I decided to just fish the stream as it was full of nice fish, and did not have to hike another mile to get to them.
I headed back to the meadow and let Jenny know I was just going to fish the stream and headed out. I caught a half dozen more and had many takes. It was very nice out but warm. At about 12:30pm the clouds started to roll in and we left before the rain or lightning started. Another great trip in the Sangre De Cristo Wilderness.
