San Isabel Lake
Date: 7/7/07Fish Caught: 12
Location: San Isabel Lake
Weather Condition: 50s and Windy
Being Saturday, I wanted to get up to the lake before the crowds showed up. I woke up at 4:30am and headed for the lake. As I drove I noticed more and more wind. I arrived at the lake and could see small whitecaps on the waves. This was not a lot of fun as this was the first time getting the float tube out for the year as I have been waiting on getting a new tube for it.
I decided to brave the tube anyway and pulled on the neopreme waders and headed out. Once I got in the water, before sitting down I made a few casts and got a hit on two casts. As the wind was blowing I decided to just work parallel to the dam. That way I did not need to try and fight my way back to the truck. This worked out well as I got a lot of strikes and landed a few fish quickly. Mostly the 10-12 inch stokers. I landed one that was about 15 inches.
I tried a dry fly a few time with no luck. I stuck to my secret streamer my father invented and did really well. Besides the wind it was a nice morning to get out and have the water to myself. It seems that I do well at Isabel when the wind is blowing. As the morning went on I saw a few people come to fish and left because they thought it was to windy. Wind can sometimes cause fish to feed and be looking for food that blows onto the water.
