It was time for a trip to the same lake as last year in the Sangres. This time it was time to hit the trail on a horse, thanks Bill. Last year I went alone and caught a bunch of large cutthroats. We had been planning this trip for the last 4 or 5 months and it was finally time to head out and see if the trout were as good as last year. Also it was Bill Morgans first time up in the Sangres and to a high mountain lake for fishing.
We left and did some horseback ridding in the dark to get some trail behind us on Thursday night. So we set up camp. We woke up and rode to our permanent camp spot and set everything up. It was about lunch time when we got everything ready to go so I ran down to the stream and caught a little cut for lunch and it tasted wonderful. After lunch we packed up our fishing gear and headed to the lake. We got there and there was a fish and game warden there. It was the first time in 7 years I have been asked for my fishing license. Well we caught a few fish , but it was a warm afternoon and they were not feeding to much. But we had fun and caught some nice fish. I was able to bring one in that measured 21-1/2". It was a nice fish. We kept two for dinner.
On the way out, we went to camp had a nice evening cooking dinner and enjoying the scenery. Saturday morning we packed up and rode on out. We spotted some sheep and saw a deer or two during the trip. We had a good time and had some fair fishing, and great weather. I think in the next 3 or 4 weeks I will head up again for an evening when they will probably be feeding better. But the trip itself is worth it even if you do not catch a thing.
