San Isabel Lake

Date: 6/25/07
Fish Caught: 1 perch
Location: San Isabel Lake
Weather Condition: 80 s and Warm

Well we decided to get the kids out at the lake this evening. It was a hot day so a trip to the lake was in order to cool down. We left the house around 7pm and got up to the lake shortly after. Not very many people were up there. They put some new guard rails around the dam and is very handy for kids to keep them off the road.

I started with a humphy and never got a bite. So after trying it for awhile, I moved to a small version of a skunk fly. Also never got a bite out of it either. So we took a walk to the other side of the lake. There were tons of fish rising all over the lake as you can see, but were not aggressive at all. After we got to the other end I started getting small nibbles. It was so subtle that it looked like bubbles just came up under the fly. I finally hooked one and it was a perch. This is the second I have pulled from the lake, and after looking around there was quite a few in there tonight.

The problem with perch is they can ruin a small lake of its trout population as they become so numerous that they consume the majority of the food source and starve the trout out. They have been known to make a lake a kill zone and have to start over.

But it was a fun night with the family and well worth the trip.
